So far, my only experience of AI is Alexa and some image generation sites, which weren't that impressive. AI will just feed us all the same crap we've always had, monetised of course, by its already-rich owners, the only difference being we can use voice commands instead of typing. I wonder if scientists and innovators are ever disappointed with the uses their discoveries and creations are put to? Controlling the masses, enriching the elite, and violence, basically.

Yes, they are disappointed...and also scared. There are lots of interviews with the fathers of AI (note, no mothers) recently, where they are ringing their hands over what they've wrought. But I also detect they are also secretly fascinated by their own evil genious.

Ah... well hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Wonderful discoveries and inventions born out of incredible minds and sold to rich exploitists (I don't think that's a word but it should totally replace capitalists) who use it to enrich themselves... its a story as old as the hills. If creators dont know this by now, they are part of the problem. All they have to do is ask themselves what will happen if they unleash their monster... but they do it anyway. I have no sympathy for their dilemma. Its not progress.

I am becoming very cynical in my old age. 🤣 If I didnt have children I think I'd opt out completely!

I read an article the other day that was about digital feudalism. I recommend it:

Wow! That article is amazing, and makes so much sense. Digital feudalism is everywhere, not just in car sales... imagine putting a rent charge on the accelerate pedal though!

Apathy leads to depression or violence...or resustance. I think we are on a precipice but have been since 2000.

How does apathy lead to violence?

Because when you realize you have been rendered powerless, and you want to take that power back, since the ones who took your power don't want to give it back, you have to fight them. It's why MLK was the true revolutionary; he and Ghandi flipped the paradigm by making peaceful resistance the weapon.
