I listen to Pivot and subscribe to "No Mercy, No Malice" and have occasionally listened to his Prof G pod. All of this sounds like you've set yourself up with some excellent marching orders. And you have inspired me to spend a little more time exploring Substack, as I too, am pretty much horrified by the awfulness of most of social media, particularly X. All the best with your business plan. And we greatly appreciate your honesty about what a shit show life can be. We've all been through those dark nights of the soul periods and your determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other is inspiring. What a fabulous post! These are very exciting times for you, and I wish you every success. I'm totally with you re social media. I moved my mailing list from my blog to Substack last year. It was just over 3800. I chopped hundreds from the list who consistently hadnt opened an email in the last year. I am now back up to just over 3700. Only 20 are paying subscribers, so well under the 5 to 10% conversions SS quotes as typical. It's painful to work so hard on producing content that people love to read for free rather than pay for, but I do absolutely believe in providing free content. I also would really love to earn a living from writing. As for social media, I gave up Twitter last December, best Christmas present to myself ever! I have never promoted my work on social media. I found its a lot of effort for little gain. I sometimes post about a new newsletter on Insta. But I prefer to let it grow organically with the content speaking for itself. I only keep Insta because I follow other writers I admire there. I am really excited to follow your journey! Best of luck with it my friend! 💕
