SPECIAL MESSAGE
To those of you asking, we are fine, and the madness is localized to the Capitol for now. We are under curfew, however.
Even so, my husband and I are devastated, and the images of what this horrible, traitorous man has done to us all makes us furious first, scared second, and incredibly sad. I feel sick to my stomach and I have had to fight back tears.
Later, I will write more about my personal sadness over this as a former Capitol Hill reporter who knows exactly where these hooligans are, and how both as a reporter and as an american — especially as an american — how outraged and sick I am about this.
There are so many people in this nation who are happy about this, don’t forget for one moment. They will be among us after today, after however this desecration of our national spirit is finally squelched.
And how will it be squelched? We don’t know. One woman has already been shot inside the Capitol Building.
But in time, we must absolutely have an answer to this question:
The lack of any mercenary troops, Homeland Security, and National Guard — all the same armed men sent to attack peaceful protesters last June — to now manage these armed and angry cry babies…why is that?
If these had been Black Lives Matter protesters, they’d be dead right now. You and I both know that.
There are so many questions to which we do not have answers, but we do know this was inevitable. The traitorous man told us all along this is what he would do, said out loud and often to his followers that this is what they should do if they love him.
There is one man on the planet who could have stopped it, who can stop it now, and where is he? In his bunker, most likely smiling. Loving that he did what he wanted to do all along: burn it all down, and make his name synonymous with pain and suffering. He is no different than Jim Jones, the cult leader whose followers died by “drinking the Kool Aid”.
He is reportedly angry that the current vice president hasn’t handed him what he wanted. And that is for one very good reason, and one alone.
Democracy will win, is winning. Stand with it.
The one man who still thinks he is above the law was shown he is not. That is why he is letting this happen. And those who support this think they are entitled to what they want because they are somehow better than the rest of us.
This violent occupation of our nation’s capital has the rest of us so furious, so motivated, so ready to protect our precious nation and our amazing way of life, that this will not hold.
The seditious men and women in Congress who abetted this madness — we will not forget who they are.
And what will we do?
Use the law. Impeach him again. Put on trial all of his henchmen. And all the while, we will be civil, we will take refuge in the fact that our military is NOT condoning this.
And those seditious Congressmen and women…They are losers. Remind them of that every time you can. Vote. Write Op-eds. Strip them of power.
Take refuge in the fact we voted and we did so peacefully. We will remember this, and we will not let it happen again. We will no longer take this astounding nation for granted again.
This is a frightening, sickening day. This is the hero these people wanted and frankly, it’s the hero they deserve.
But not the rest of us. We can and will do better.
Peace,
Whitney
