Greetings,
So, how are you spending this 75th day of April? It feels endless, doesn’t it?
I am listening to Americana music: Roseann Cash’s The List, her tribute album to her dad, Johnny; a collection of women singers covering Tom Waites songs; and right now, Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. We do generate some great storytellers and songwriters.
It’s appropriate that I would be contemplating this great country of ours through the stories our troubadors tell, since I am considering what it is about us that merits paying attention to. Hearing these songs focus on the details of our lives is instructive. What are they describing that we should pay attention to? It’s an exercise inspired by the piece I have been working on to do with the death of our American Dream and its impact on our collective psyche.
