vol. 5 AOS 4
This week’s round-up from docu-mental and News from the Ensouled Universe.
Greetings,
Here is the week’s free round-up of events. If you are a paid subscriber, feel free to share this with others you know, especially those folks who, as I have started thinking of you all, are people seeking deep mental roots, not shallow instructions.
Also, please leave comments. It’s great to get emails sent to me directly, and you know I do repsond, but it’s also useful to the publication if you are willing to share your thoughts and opinions. It encourages others to do the same.
Before I gather and sort here, I feel compelled to apologize for there being of late more typos and copy flubs than usual. It’s partly the fault of my lame copy editor (me), but also because I type over 100 words a minute when all my digits function, but now for some reason, I have a busted finger that doesn’t like to go that fast and so is not willing to bend to the usual pace of key strokes. My rhythm is off.
The result is an annoying amount of missed letters that make me look like I don’t know how to spell. I know how to spell. I don’t know what happened to my finger, I just know it isn’t functioning correctly and it vaguely hurts. Whaaaah.
Anyway, onward…
Coming next week…
I will be taking the next two weeks off from writing, but I will be publishing a podcast interview with author, novelist, podcaster, and all-around muckracker, Greg Olear.
Here’s the link to the first time he visited the docu-mental podcast.
You know how you look forward to something, and then when it happens it’s so great, and then after the fact, it’s still great when you review the memories of it? That’s how I feel about this conversation with Greg. I was so psyched when he agreed to return to the show, I enjoyed speaking with him when he did, and then I have been cracking up and musing at his insights all over again as I edit.
Here’s a sampling of outtakes, largely unedited, from our conversation. I am certain some of you will freak out when you hear what we talk about.
And, you know, my request that you leave comments…? Please don’t be a jerk. Just consider that sometimes you have to go to the extremes with your imagination in order to expand the range of options that you ultimately are comfortable with in the practical ways of things.
With that trigger warning for Christians especially now in place, below is a snippet of our discussion about whether or not Jesus actually existed, how the Roman Empire might have (did) monopolize and export Christianity for profit, and if ETs were involved…also, we discuss fascists’ aversion to words they don’t control, and Greg reads an excerpt of W.H. Auden’s poem, Epitaph on a Tyrant.
That’s just in this sample! The full podcast is bursting with all kinds of unique and articulate musings about the intersection of mythology, poetry, and politics.
Oh, and Olear is from NJ, so there are lots of F bombs. You have been warned.

ICYMI last week:
That’s all for now. Remember that docu-mental is a patron supported publication. If you are reading this and haven’t yet subscribed as a patron, kindly consider doing so. I am also now offering group subscriptions on an annual basis, so if you’d like to share the cost of a subscription with others, please let me know by replying to this email or contacting me on Substack Notes.
Otherwise, sharing my work with others absolutely helps it grow.
Have a beautiful Memorial Day, and remember there are more options in the world to be kind and thoughtful than we could ever possibly take. But we can try.
Peace,
Whitney
