ICYMI: Mindstead is the first online marketplace for mental health tools
It's Etsy for your mind!
vol. 4 issue 6
Greetings,
Today is the Equinox, a day when light and dark are perfectly poised against one another. A time to reflect on what brings us balance.
That’s why I am pulling this from the archives because it’s a damn good interview and is relevant to our times right now.
SHUFFLING THE DECK
I can’t say I am feeling especially out of balance, but I do know as I age, I can’t do it all…at once. But, I am still doing much. To that end, at least until April, the usual Friday publishing schedule will likely continue to be interrupted, so expect docu-mental to arrive any time between Friday and Sunday. But by May, we should be back to our regular schedule.
PODCAST MANIA
Meanwhile, what’s keeping me busy includes the launch of the podcast Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast, which is doing well, but will continue to be a time suck until we hire a producer (a process now underway). And, ta-da, I am also planning the return of the docu-mental podcast and have started to line up guests for the next season.
Already confirmed is novelist and investigative journalist Greg Olear, also the publisher of PREVAIL, which is one of my weekly must-read publications (be sure to scroll all the way down on his “about” page to learn about his books and essays). Mostly, Greg is an upbeat and funny cultural observer who is out to bust every scumbag we’ve had to put up with in recent times.
We’ll be talking about (well, probably more like ranting about) what Greg so deliciously and accurately calls the “supine media”, which collectively cannot do much other than dumb us down, even though there are plenty of great journalists who work within an overall crap industry.
We’ll compare notes on whether what we are doing as independent publishers seems to be penetrating the fog. I will also be asking Greg to share his thoughts on why he believes that indeed, democracy will prevail.
Beyond that, I’m lining up guests who also can talk about how they see evidence of the status quo falling chunk by chunk across industries that formerly would never have seemed willing to budge. Well, some of them, like healthcare, aren’t exactly willing to budge, but that shit’s flying off the facade anyway. Lots of great chats to come…
Introducing the docu-mental app!!
Did you know you can read docu-mental in a new app just out from Substack? Yup. Here’s where to learn more, or where you can just go ahead and download it!
That’s it for today. Stay balanced, which is to say,
Peace,
Whitney
