vol. 5 AOS 8
Greetings,
Until I moved to Montana, if I associated the state with heat at all, it was with wild fires. A place with bison and a park called Glacier doesn't automatically translate in one's mind as being hot. But, the western part of the state in the northern Rockies, where I now find myself, is semi-arid and indeed full-on hot.
As a Southern East Coaster, I am used to heat that peaks midday. Here, the furnace blast hits you not from above during lunch hour, but parallel in the face, as though the sun were eye level, beginning around 5 PM.
I think this has a lot to do with why after several days working in the sun, then coming home to work in the sun some more, I find myself with a headache tonight.
docu-mental gets a business boost
But, I did want to share some news. The day before moving to Montana, I learned I had won a scholarship from a consortium of business leaders and professors from top MBA programs on the strength of the content here at docu-mental, and also at my other publication, News from the Ensouled Universe.
Although this is (humble brag) the second time I have won a grant for my writing here on Substack, the news startled me, as I had applied without much expectation of winning. Although I immediately accepted and enrolled in classes, moving and getting established in my new home pulled focus. Until now.
The scholarship requires I have a "project", and since I stated in my application that I want to grow my audience so that I can parlay my work here into a bigger venture, both newsletters and podcasts are soon to get an overhaul. The changes might be slow and steady, but you can expect they will be coming, and that I will solicit and welcome your feedback as I adjust my "products" in accordance with what I am learning.
I appreciate your support, both now and throughout the past five years. Being given a chance to work one-on-one with some of my favorite business thinkers and innovators is not only serendipity, but serious, and I look forward to sharing with you what I learn.
As you might expect, the changes to my publications I have in mind will include an interrogation of how business and commerce can occur in a world where the land is sovereign and those who seek to live and work upon it are neither rapacious nor dippy.
When I am less heat-pooped, I will be sure to write a milestone letter letting you know what we've achieved over time, but for now, enjoy the photo of the bison family I took at high noon today, and expect fresh and engaging content in the weeks to come.
June 30
My best wishes to you for a meaningful Independence Day.
Peace,
Whitney
